Meru Central Coffee is dedicated to offering coffee farmers training and education on the best farming practices to ensure that coffee production is maintained at a high volume, whilst making sure that quality is as high as possible.

For instance, the fertility of soils has depreciated over time because of the negative effects of soil erosion and soil leaching. This is why we advice the farmers to carry out a soil test, before making a decision on the type of soil supplement to use. Using the soil test results, the appropriate fertilizer can be applied to ensure optimal coffee production.

The coffee plant faces several challenges during the year; this depends on weather/climatic changes. In the dry season coffee is attacked by ants, hence during this period we offer advice on the most effective methods of combating ant infestation.

On the other hand, during the cold season, the coffee plant may manifest symptoms of rust on leaves, which is characteristic of leaf rust or white patches on the leaves which is characteristic of leaf blight. There are preventive measures farmers can take to ensure that the coffee plant is not infected. In case of an infection, all hope is not lost because a curing protocol is an option. All in all, prevention is better than cure.

In addition to training on best coffee farming practices, we also offer training on embracing technology in farming, hence basic information technology (IT) skills are essential for the farmer to take advantage of technological advancements in coffee farming. We also undertake training on exercises that boost the social and financial well being of farmers through programs such as the VSLA program, which enables farmers to take advantage of collective saving and responsible borrowing.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions on sustainable coffee farming practices.
